Graduate School of Science and Engineering

This graduate school offers six majors: Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural-Construction Engineering, and Environmental System Science. We provide education and research on advanced theories and applications of physical science and engineering. Cross-discipline study, surpassing the domain of majors, is also possible by taking courses from other majors or research departments.
　Furthermore, research support organizations such as the Collaborative Research Center and the Information Science Research Center have been established.

The study of physics not only attempts to understand phenomena in the natural world based on fundamental laws, but also serves to apply such to other fields of natural science and various technologies, thus contributing to industries and economies. This major cultivates individuals with a broad perspective through a balance of theory and experiment. Many courses are taken by both theory and experiment-based students, highlighting one of our unique aspects. We offer extensive facilities, including the Collaborative Research Center and various equipment such as the Atomic Force Microscope. Participation in academic conferences and seminars by graduate students is also highly encouraged.

The Chemistry Major has consistently been graduating degree holders who enter society since its establishment, many of whom are active as researchers or engineers in various fields of chemistry. In recent years, the areas of expertise that can be learned have increased, not only in traditional chemistry fields, but also in the field of life science. Not only research using the laboratories facilities within the school, but also the latest research in various fields is also conducted through collaborations with researchers and institutions outside the school.

Mechanical Engineering is a vital specialty area that supports our lives, encompassing automobiles, railways, aerospace, robots, and various industrial machines. As we enter the 21st century, we are urged to transition from a resource-wasting society to a resource-recycling society. In this major, we cultivate and produce talents with advanced expertise and skills, researching and developing new technologies demanded by the times, along with experienced professors.

Electrical Engineering is an academic field always at the forefront of the times and a professional field where a wide range of human resources is demanded in society. Professors not only engage in educational activities but also cultivate students' academic skills and flexible problem-solving abilities through research activities. We cover the three fields of power & energy, information & communication, and materials & properties, ensuring a responsive education for students’ intellectual curiosity. We strive to give students experience in presenting at conferences domestically and internationally, ensuring highly professional research activities.

In the Architecture and Construction Engineering Major, we tackle a wide range of research themes needed in the architect-construction fields as demanded by a new era, such as realizing attractive architectural spaces with various functions, building sustainable cities and social infrastructures, and developing disaster prevention technologies including for earthquakes, etc. In the Master's program, students delve into four areas: architectural design, structural engineering-materials engineering, construction engineering, and architectural-building science. In the Doctoral program, students delve into area structural engineering-materials engineering.

The Environmental Systems and Engineering Major undertakes various themes related to the environment and challenges advanced research and technology development, holding high ideals of opening the gate to a circular society. Particularly, it is hoped to spread Japan's sophisticated technology to Asian countries where rapid economic growth coupled with environmental issues has urged efforts. We actively accept international students. Both the Master's and Doctoral programs offer two systems, information system and technology system, where students delve deeper into their area of specialization.
