Pursuing Humanity and Aiming at the Fusion of Scholarship and Practice
The Graduate School of Humanities consists of two specializations: International Communication Studies and Sociology. In the midst of the waves of globalization and technological innovation, and within a contemporary society that is rapidly changing, what might be called the 'humanity (Humanities)' that originates culture, society, and the mind? In this graduate school, we academically tackle the issue of elucidating 'humanity', nurturing the problem consciousness that each student has, aiming to be a place of education and research that further develops existing academic systems.
International Communication Major
In this course, we have organized a curriculum that allows for cross-disciplinary study in four fields: "Communication Research Area", "Linguistics Research Area", "Cultural Studies Area", and "International Society Research Area". To develop professionals with specialized knowledge and skills, the basic form of classes is participatory, incorporating experiential elements into lectures. In addition, we actively encourage research presentations at academic meetings both domestically and internationally from the first year, fostering the ability to disseminate results externally. Those aspiring to be teachers can obtain a secondary teaching license (English) in this course.
Sociology, which aims to scientifically and empirically clarify the actual conditions of society, covers a very wide range of research subjects. In this course, our educational policy is first to deepen the understanding of society itself and human life, then to be able to use sociology and social welfare studies as research methods, and further to theoretically and empirically study one's own research subjects. The curriculum is a two-track system with 'Sociology Course' and 'Social Welfare Studies Course', and is organized to maximize effectiveness by interweaving coursework focused on mastering each specialized field with 'Research Guidance' that provides individual guidance on each student's research topics. The qualification of Professional Social Surveyor can be acquired.
