Purpose of the discipline
Development is supposed to be achieved with a sustainable utilization of the earth’s resources. However, human beings have repeated developments in an intemperate manner, exceeding the sustainability of the earth in the process of establishing present day prosperity. In consequence, we are facing global environmental problems such as warming temperature. We, as human beings who have eventually realized that the earth has a finite amount of resources, must make efforts to change the social system which has brought about these problems. Our program suggests how a recycle and reuse oriented society should be , through reviewing how nature works, challenging to reform the current social system of mass production, mass consumption and mass disposal, and utilizing findings from research in Ecology and its related science field. Students obtain the knowledge and techniques to create such a society while protecting the global environment and co-existing with all kind of living beings, which are traits desirable in any field.
- The target of students is to obtain a national qualification of “Professional Engineer (Environment)”
- Many practical sessions including experiments, practical training and internship programs
- Collaborative research with other universities and research institutions in Asia
The curriculum is based on the accreditation criteria of the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE), which accredits “structured engineering education programs training of international engineers that reach societies expectations”. Students learn knowledge and practical skills to conserve the environment and aspire to the qualification of Professional Engineer (Environment) that is recognized as the top national qualification in engineering. There are two optional fields of expertise; Environment Information and Environment Technology. Both have many hands-on sessions such as experiments, fieldwork and internship programs. The program also offers collaborative research and networking with other universities and research institutions in Asia in terms of conserving the environment, where problems of environmental destruction have worsened in association with the growth of an industry.
