■Purpose of the discipline

With the innovations of computer technology, the possibility of expression with images has been growing dramatically and digitalization of knowledge and techniques on design that support manufacturing have also been progressing. CAD is now essential equipment in the manufacturing industries. In parallel, as the digitalization of images, sounds and printing information has been progressing, a new field called digital communications has developed, which is used in the interactive environment as represented by the world of internet or mobile phones. Furthermore, computer technology has more attention as a tool of artistic expression towards spiritual enrichment. Unlike the other 2 programs, students have opportunities to learn how to utilize computer technologies in the fields of manufacturing, image expression and art. The full-fledged digital society will come soon. The program aims to foster the new era’s hybrid digital engineers by media mix, equipped with an ability to forecast the future and possessing skills demanded in the industrial design, web design or image and interactive art fields.

Studying area is the boundary area of computer technology and design, which supports to play a bridging role between designers and design engineers. Students learn all processes (planning, design and trial production) done at development and manufacturing sites, and experience manufacturing with a rich originality. Students also study interfaces, instructions and image expression, and learn production engineering at leading-edge facilities by making their own individual efforts. Programming, which is needed for visualization of ideas, imagination and representation of images is very helpful for creative activities. The program aims to cultivate sensitive and leading-edge digital engineers who play an important role and collaborate with designers, creators and artists.
